Frutillar is a small city on the western shore of Lake Llanquihue in southern Chile, with views across the water toward the snow-covered Osorno, Puntiagudo, Tronador, and Calbuco volcanoes. The Teatro del Lago stands beside the water and incorporates performance spaces, classrooms, and exhibition areas. Just outside the town, the Llanquihue basin offers access to forests, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, and hiking routes. Frutillar also lies within the scenic Lake District, making it a useful base for exploring nearby places such as Puerto Octay, Llanquihue, and the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.
Food in Frutillar reflects both Chilean and German influences. Kuchen, a fruit-filled German-style cake, is one of the town's best-known specialties and is commonly served in local cafés alongside coffee or tea. Other foods associated with the area include apple-based desserts, breads, pastries, smoked meats, and traditional Chilean dishes using potatoes and seafood. The surrounding Lake Llanquihue region is also an important agricultural area, producing milk, cheese, berries, and other farm products.
