Below the streets of the historic center, the Frantoio Ipogeo underground olive press offers an unusual look at traditional agricultural production. Gallipoli is also surrounded by sandy beaches and shallow coastal waters, including stretches of shoreline along the Baia Verde area south of the town, where dunes and Mediterranean vegetation meet the Ionian coast.

One of Gallipoli’s distinctive culinary sites is the underground olive press, where oil was traditionally produced in chambers carved below the historic town.
