Iringa is a highland city in southern Tanzania, built on steep slopes overlooking the Little Ruaha River. Its elevated setting gives the city a cooler climate and broad views across surrounding hills and agricultural land. Iringa is an important regional centre and serves as a gateway to Ruaha National Park, one of Tanzania’s major wildlife areas. It combines ancient stone-tool discoveries with unusual sandstone pillars and eroded formations created by natural processes. Iringa is also a convenient starting point for journeys to Ruaha National Park, where elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, wild dogs, and many other species inhabit a large savanna landscape. The surrounding highlands offer additional opportunities for walking and exploring rural scenery.
